This Sunday at Faith: Happy Father’s Day!
Sunday, June 21, 2020
This week, the California-Pacific Annual Conference concluded it’s 36th annual gathering virtually through an online conference on Zoom. Opening Worship, Conference reports and business, Memoriam, Retirement, Break out rooms, Ordination, and closing Young People’s Worship were packed into 2 1/2 days this week–usually a conference held over 4 1/2 days time. For those able to participate as voting members of the Annual Conference and those able to observe the service from the calpacumc.org/ac2020, it was truly a new way of doing Annual Conference. Our Faith Voting Delegates this year were: Maxine Butcher, Jane Matsumoto, Joanne Sato, Barbara & Larry Takumi. Roger Butcher is our alternate, Minister Eric Iki represented for the West District Young Adults, Zion Une represented for the West District Youth; Pastors Ki Choi, Becky Hirata, Hidemi Ito, and myself all attended virtually as conference clergy.
And still true to Cal-Pac tradition, the Conference ended on the week of Father’s Day! As a child, I still remember writing little Father’s Day notes and my mom would pack them in my dad’s suitcase and send him off to Annual Conference in Redlands where he would be able to open up his bag and find little goodies and notes of love while he was at conference. It wasn’t until I started attending Annual Conference as an 8th grader that I was able to celebrate Father’s Day IN-PERSON with my dad, not over an ocean! But alas, without an in-person gathering at Annual Conference this year, we are an ocean apart again! And this Father’s Day is truly an odd one for many. As we celebrate a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, many of us are social-distancing and sending our love from a far! But it doesn’t take away from the fact that we honor those Father’s and those WHO Father others on this day. Please join us for Worship Services on Sunday at 8:30am and 10:30am. This week the message will be THE SAME for both services, the 8:30am services will be an abbreviated service and the 10:30am, the full service recording. During the service we will be honoring our Faith Community Dads, so stay until the end of the service to experience the slideshow! We want to INVITE and encourage our community to participate LIVE on Facebook and YouTube (@FaithSouthBay) during worship our 8:30 and 10:30 services by commenting in the comment section, sending pictures and prayers, and invite friends to worship by sharing our worship services or starting your own Facebook Watch Parties! Let us worship God together as a community of Faith!Following the Worship services, join us on ZOOM for our Coffee & Fellowship. See below or go to www.faithsouthbay.org for the Zoom link.

FOR NEXT WEEK’S WORSHIP: PRIDE SUNDAY
Last year, on June 16, Faith United Methodist signed a Resolution to become part of the Reconciling Ministries Network of Welcoming Congregations which meant that we made a decision as a congregation to be intentionally open and welcoming to all God’s people, and especially to the LGBTQIA community whom the United Methodist Church has long exclusively excluded in our Book of Discipline and United Methodist Polity. On June 27, we will be celebrating this momentous anniversary through a worship sponsored by the Reconciling Ministries Network at the 10:30am Service. You are also invite do participate in a VIRTUAL RMN PRIDE PARADE:
You can be a part of RMN’s virtual Pride Parade! Go to rmnetwork.org for instructions and to submit your photo/video. Send in photos or 3-5 sec. video clips on our website. On June 28th, RMN is live-streaming its virtual Pride worship service, “Love is Resilient.” After the service, we’ll watch a virtual pride parade. This is your chance to be in the parade!

Our community is here for you and can offer prayers for you and your loved ones.
THE CHURCH IS STILL OPEN
For those wondering when our church doors are going to open again, the church was never closed. The work of the people continues in our homes and through different ways. In the June edition of the Good News, the Re-Entry Task Force shared our preliminary plans and phases for re-opening the church. The Re-Entry Task Force re-evaluate the re-opening timeline and working on detailed protocols and guidelines every Friday at 10am. If you have any questions, you can send them directly to the church office and pastors.
At this time, we have made a decision for the health and safety of our community and congregation, that Faith will remain closed as a campus. So during this time, we must continue to care for one another and our neighbor by doing no harm, but wearing masks, staying home as much as we can, and connecting with those who may need the extension of Christ’s love by a voice, a meal, or a special message/text/note/letter.As we worship in a different way this Sunday, keep in mind that where two or three are gathered, we worship in Christ’s name…and remember that we, as a people of Faith are always united together.
If you have any needs, always feel free to contact the pastors and your ministry leaders!
May the God of Hope and Faith continue to lift us up,
Rev. Allison

Online Giving
Giving is a response of gratitude rather than a legalistic requirement or obligation. “This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. God gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way so that you can be generous in every way…” -2 Corinthians 9:11 (The Message). The goal of giving is for each of us to gratefully leverage and steward all that God has given us in order to become more like Him (generous in every way) and to bless many for the glory of God.
Your pledges and offerings can also be mailed or dropped off at: Faith United Methodist Church – 2115 West 182nd St, Torrance, CA 90504
